The study of horticulture is divided into four categories:
Ornamental Landscape Design/Maintenance, Greenhouse Production,
Nursery Production, and Floral Design. The Ornamental Landscape and
Nursery Production portions of the program include building skills
in landscape design, nursery management, turf care, golf course
maintenance, small gas engine maintenance, and pesticide
application. In Greenhouse Production, students will have practical
experience in growing and managing crops. This part of the program
prepares students for entry-level employment positions in garden
centers, greenhouses, and floral shops. The Floral Design pathway
develops agricultural and artistic principles with business skills
to design fresh and artificial arrangements. Early placement is
provided to eligible seniors.

Grade 12
The nursery/landscape industry and the floral industry are the key
subjects of this course. Students will learn about personally
rewarding jobs such as those in landscape design, floral design,
greenhouse production, nursery management, landscape maintenance and
other non-traditional horticulture jobs. Related concepts and hands
on learning are combined in attaining the skills necessary for
success. Many opportunities for personal growth and skill
development are available. FFA membership and a lab fee are
required. Ag Science I must be taken prior to or with this class.

NATURAL RESOURCES Marlington High School

Grade 12
The course offers the student the opportunity to learn skills that
are needed in Natural Resources related careers. The subject areas
include forestry, park maintenance, outdoor recreation, fish
management, wildlife, water quality, arboriculture, Christmas tree
production, and individual projects that provide actual hands-on
experience. This course is 2 credits which is combined in a related
and laboratory setting.
