BROADCAST ARTS Alliance High School

Broadcasts Arts/Video Production I
Elective 1 year (36 weeks)
Credit: 3 15 periods per week
Grade: 11
Fees: None
Reading Level: Average or above
Prerequisites: 2 units of English, History and Science and elective in creative writing preferred.
Description: Basic introduction and development skills in broadcast writing (news, commercials, script and programs) camera operations, and production areas such as audio, lighting, editing and graphic design. Students assist in producing announcements, Friday lunch programs, and at least 4 new shows every week for Carnation Cable Channel 11 in Alliance. Students gain valuable experience video taping various sporting events, musical productions and other special events in and outside of Alliance High School.

Broadcasts Arts/Video Production II
Elective 1 year (36 weeks)
Credit: 3 15 periods per week

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Video Production I and completion of English IIIA or B.
Electives in Web Design/Flash or Film Studies preferred.
Description: Students continue to improve skills acquired in the junior year and are encouraged to job shadow and obtain internships at various communication facilities in the area. Students help write, direct and produce at least 4 new shows every week for Carnation Cable Channel 11 and work on various individual and group projects. They learn to produce, program and promote shows for Time Warner Cable Channel 11 (in-house authentic work environment).

VISUAL DESIGN AND IMAGING Alliance High School

Visual Design and Imaging I
Elective – 1 year (36 weeks)
Credit: 3 (2 lab; 1 related) 15 periods per week

Prerequisites: Junior standing
Recommended: Visual Art and Industrial Technology
Description: This program is in the Arts and Communication Career Field. Visual Design and Imaging or printing, is a growth industry that uses a variety of processes to manufacture an array of products, from cereal boxes to newspapers. Printing is America's third largest manufacturing industry, employing over 1.2 million people in 45,000 establishments. In this program students will learn about all major printing processes and how digital technologies are shaping the industry. Students will get hands on experience, which will enable them to manage, plan, design, prepare and produce various kinds of printed products. Areas of instruction will include introduction to graphic communications, digital file preparation and output, press operations, finishing and binding, screen printing, career development, employability traits and health and safety as well.

Prerequisites: Senior standing, successful completion of Visual Design and Imaging I
Description: Visual Design and Imaging II is geared towards building onto the skills learned the first year of the program. Additional areas of instruction will include advanced digital file preparation and output, advanced press operations and advanced screen printing techniques. Students who demonstrate a high level of competency and who have excellent attendance will be recommended for early placement, where they will continue education on a career field related job site earning pay. Students will also be encouraged and given guidance towards continuing education at schools offering degrees in Arts and Communication, upon completion of program.

**Articulated college credit will be available to students who successfully complete the two-year Visual Design and Imaging Program.

The AHS Visual Design and Imaging is a PrintED Certified Program. PrintEd (GAERF- Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation) is a national accreditation and certification program based on industry standards for arts and communication courses of study at the secondary and post-secondary levels.
