ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE TECHNOLOGY – GlenOak High School

This exciting program provides office skills to those students interested in working in an administrative support environment. Students have real-life hands on experiences in an office doing high quality presentations using word processing skills, spreadsheet applications and desktop publishing. They have the opportunity to earn college credits. Student learning opportunities include:

Worksite experiences have included: hospitals, insurance companies, licensing agencies, community service agencies, small business choices, manufacturing office and law office Students enter state and national BPA competitions and have been highly successful.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE TECHNOLOGY – R. G. Drage Career Center

In this program students will learn a variety of administrative duties including information and communication management, data processing, data collection, and project tracking. Students will use Microsoft Office 2007 to gain the necessary skills needed to work in a business office. The program is designed to enhance skills needed to succeed in today’s office environment. The skills required in administrative and professional support careers continue to change with technology and increased demands, providing new opportunities in this career field.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE TECHNOLOGY – Sandy Valley High School

Administrative Office Technologies is a two-year program designed to prepare students for entry level positions in information management, time management, resource management, and records management. The career choices are endless in the business pathway. The business environment is one of the fastest growing and competitive career fields. Students have a membership in Business Professionals of America which provides networking with business professionals and other business students throughout the state.

ADMINISTRATIVE MEDICAL ASSISTANT – R. G. Drage Career Center

As a student in the Administrative Medical Assistant program you will learn administrative procedures needed to work in a doctor’s office, clinic or hospital. Coursework includes instruction in anatomy, physiology, medical ethics, medical terminology, office procedures, medical records, and an introduction to medical coding. Graduates of the program can serve in the profession as clerical staff members employed by doctors in private practice or clinical settings. Other graduates may find employment in the rapidly growing large group-practice systems and HMO’s.

ADMINISTRATIVE MEDICAL ASSISTANT – Massillon Washington High School

Medical Office Management I & II -2 yr. program for juniors & seniors; 3 periods per day for 3 credits per yr.

This program is designed for students who are interested in working in the front office/reception area of a medical facility. It is based on the administrative areas of medicine, such as bookkeeping, billing, filing, health insurance/coding, and transcription. Students will learn medical terminology, procedures, medical accounting, and filing. Students will develop skills in medical transcription, billing, insurance, and coding. Career opportunities exist as administrative medical assistant, medical receptionist, medical secretary, medical file clerk, insurance filing clerk, medical claims clerk, medical records technician, and hospital receptionist. Student in this career field experience the satisfaction of helping others as well as the opportunity to serve on a health care team. Students are required to become members of Business Professionals of America and participate in fund raising activities. College Tech/Prep affiliation allows students to participate in College Tech/Prep program, post secondary articulation for credit, and off-site training experiences.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGIES – Massillon Washington High School

Business Management I & II - 2 yr. program for juniors & seniors; meets 3 periods per day for 3 credits per yr.

Designed for students who want to major in business in college or who want to work as business owners, managers, or supervisors. Students enrolled in this program learn the operational skills needed to work in the business world: computer applications, business principles, accounting, along with other business training including: written and verbal communications, telephone techniques, calculating skills, and filing procedures. Students complete self-paced projects. Instruction is enhanced by field trips to various area businesses. Students meeting requirements may enter the work force on a part-time basis their senior year. Students must be members of Business Professionals of America and may participate in local, regional, state, and national activities.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT I – Jackson High School - Junior Year

Prerequisite: Business and Technology Foundations
Length: Full year course
Grade Level: 11
Credit: 1 credit

This course will prepare students for post-secondary education or entry-level positions in the field of business management. Students enrolled in the course will explore business concepts, terminology, and applications as they relate to business operations, leadership and management, finance and economics, communications, technology applications, and profession and career development. This course may be taken alone, however students have the option for further study in the area by completing Business Management II (2 periods), Computer Office Applications (semester course), and Entrepreneurship (semester course). Students choosing to complete all of these courses have the opportunity to receive college credit through Stark State College upon successful completion of all College Tech Prep program requirements.

Participation in DECA, an international association of high school and college students studying marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality and marketing sales and service, is mandatory. Members develop leadership, citizenship, and scholastic skills through local, state, and national events and activities. Students are responsible for the $25.00 membership dues.

LEGAL STUDIES – GlenOak High School

Legal Studies prepares students for a variety of careers in the areas of legal instrumentation’s regulation and compliance. Students examine legal issues, court decisions, ethical issues and the trial process. Various cultural and social environmental issues with consideration for legal implication will be examined. Students will study forensics in relation to criminology. Activities include mock trials, probation/parole hearings, international law/world court, ethical discussions, writing policy and consulting with Legal Aid Attorneys. These hands on experiences correspond with state competencies. Students will develop a sufficient foundation allowing an opportunity for immediate employment or a successful transition to a two-year legal associate program and/or a four-year pre-law studies program.

LEGAL STUDIES – Lake High School
   Grade 11 – Forensic Science
   Grade 12

The Lake Legal Studies program emphasizes the world of legal studies and the many related fields. Include in this program is a guest lecture legal series, hands-on visitations, and skill development for related professions. In addition, the curriculum for this program focuses on professionalism. The curriculum for this program focuses on professionalism, communication skills (both written and oral), legal office procedures, legal office ethics, legal concepts, and management sectors including financial operations, human resources, and marketing. Students will have the opportunity to learn about many potential career pathways including, but not limited to: Court Administrator, Court Reporter, Legal Case Coordinator, Legal Office Manager, Legal Assistant, Paralegal, and Lawyers. The 12th grade program includes a five day Washington seminar.

HIGH SCHOOL OF BUSINESS – Perry High School

Leadership
Leadership, a project-based leadership course, develops student understanding and skills in such areas as communication skills, emotional intelligence, operations, and professional development. Students acquire an understanding and appreciation of the need for leadership skills. To encourage immediate implementation of leadership skills, Leadership utilizes an on-going service-learning project for course delivery and reinforcement. The course content is sequenced for students to identify, plan, implement, and evaluate a service-learning project based on the needs of their community/school. Throughout the course, students are presented problem-solving situations for which they must apply academic and critical-thinking skills. Formal reflection is an on-going component of the course.

Wealth Management
This project-based financial literacy and investment course develops student understanding and skills in such areas as personal finance, types of investment, the stock market, and stock valuation. Students acquire an understanding and appreciation of the need for personal financial management and investing. To encourage immediate implementation of financial literacy and investment skills, Wealth Management utilizes an on-going investment project for course delivery and reinforcement. The course content is sequenced for students to develop a diversified, balanced investment portfolio based both on their interest in products and companies and on fundamental analysis. Throughout the course, students are presented problem-solving situations for which they must apply academic and critical-thinking skills.

Principles of Business
Principles of Business, a project-based business course, develops student understanding and skills in such areas as business law, economics, financial analysis, human resources management, information management, marketing, operations, and strategic management. Through the use of three projects, students acquire an understanding and appreciation of the business world. They develop a business analysis report, conduct an environmental scan of the local business community, and investigate business activities. Current technology will be used to acquire information and to complete the projects. Throughout the course, students are presented problem-solving situations for which they must apply academic and critical-thinking skills. Formal reflection is an on-going component of the course.

Business Economics
In Business Economics, a project-based business course, students expand their understanding that businesses are influenced by external factors that are often beyond their control. Consumer spending, government policies, economic conditions, legal issues, and global competition are addressed through practical, current applications to everyday societal and business life. Decision matrices are introduced, and the importance and costs of quality are stressed. Students develop their knowledge and skills in such areas as economics, entrepreneurship, operations, and professional development. Throughout the course, students will be presented with current economic problems for which they are asked to determine solutions, often through the application of decision matrices.

Principles of Marketing
Principles of Marketing is a project-based business course that develops student understanding and skills in the functional areas of marketing: channel management, marketing-information management, market planning, pricing, product/service management, promotion, and selling. Students acquire an understanding and appreciation of each of the marketing functions and their ethical and legal issues. Decision matrices are employed to aid in market planning.

Principles of Finance
Principles of Finance furthers student understanding of two specific business activities—accounting and finance—that were introduced in an earlier High School of Business course, Principles of Business. Through multiple projects, students make connections between accounting, with an emphasis on cash flow, and finance, with an emphasis on decision-making. Students acquire an understanding of financial statements, calculate financial ratios, and make business decisions based on their interpretation of those financial statements and ratios. In addition, students determine business-financing options, as well as develop an appreciation for types of financial service providers and financial markets. Decision matrices are employed to aid in financial planning.

Principles of Management
Principles of Management is a project-based business course that expands student understanding of management. Students acquire an appreciation for aspects of management, such as project management, human resources management, knowledge management, quality management, and risk management. In addition, ethical and legal considerations affecting business activities are stressed, and students develop managerial and supervisory skills through interaction with lower grade-level High School of Business students. Decision matrices are employed to aid in management planning.
