CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES
– Alliance High School

Construction Trades I

Elective1 year (36 weeks)
Credit: 3 (2 lab; 1 related

Fees: $75.00 + tools
Prerequisite: Algebra I

Description: Students receive basic instruction in the areas of carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical wiring, painting and remodeling of structures. Various onsite construction projects are undertaken for practical application of skills. Students study blueprint reading. Proper use of tools, machinery and reading a tape measure.

Construction Trades II

Fees: $50.00 + tools
Prerequisite: Algebra 1 and Geometry

Description: Students receive advanced training in Construction Trades II and will become involved in job analysis and preparation of building materials list for various projects. Students work independently as well as work as members of a team in community service projects. Students with their developed skills and under highly trained supervision may obtain construction related employment or job shadowing for the second semester.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES - GlenOak’s Construction Trades program
– GlenOak High School

provides students with intensive learning opportunities in the major areas of construction: carpentry, electricity, masonry, and plumbing. Students work together each year on a building project such as a Habitat for Humanity House that provides students with on-site learning from the start to the "finish of a building project. On-the job training is also available for qualifying seniors during their second semester. Students have the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school.

Learning experiences include a wide range of skills and subjects such as:

• Carpentry
• Plumbing
• Electrical
• Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
• Masonry

Students will develop necessary skills to enter the workforce, an apprenticeship, or two year associate degree at a college or university.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES
– Hoover High School

Juniors – 2 credits
Foundations of Construction and woodworking is a class that focuses on exciting hands-on learning that will be useful throughout students’ lives. Emphasis in this course is placed on operating and maintaining power equipment in a safe fashion. Much of the experience is gained through lab experience and project completions. Major projects to be completed are the grandfather clock, cottage activity, and construction modules.
The curriculum of this course includes:

  1. Woodworking/ Cabinetry- Students will learn the many aspects of woodworking. Student will be able to use machinery and other power equipment tools with an emphasis on safety. Students will gain proficiency in equipment usage through an exciting in-class project.
  2. Construction Technology- Students will learn every aspect of home building from designing a home, reading blue prints, purchasing/ estimating lumber, and the internal and external construction of a home.

Seniors - 3 periods/3 credits
This class is a culmination of what the students have learned in the previous construction classes. This will consist of 3 periods of construction trades. The students will be on the job-site getting real world experience. Students will be constructing a home from the ground up for Habitat for Humanity.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES
– Jackson High School

Students enrolled in this two-year program will learn skills that are performed in the construction, repair, and upkeep of homes, apartment complexes, commercial buildings, and businesses. The skills learned will be those used by tradesmen in a variety of trade areas, such as: carpentry, painting/wallpaper, electricity, plumbing, roofing, bricklaying, siding, masonry, floor installation, Formica-tile installation, heating, air conditioning, and ventilation (H.V.A.C.), as well as safety aspects that are connected to each trade area.

Note: Students in Junior Building Trades will receive a MATH credit within the five- period block. Students in the Senior Building Trades will receive an English credit within the five- period block. In addition, the Senior year is spent on actual job sites applying various trade skills.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES
– Marlington High School

Construction Tech Prep: 4 credits/two year program
Pre-requisites: Fulfill course requirements with a "C" or better in Construction Foundations and Electricity. The teacher strongly encourages taking CAD also. the courses may be taken concurrently for out-of-district students This course deals with the introduction of residential construction in the business world. The subject matter includes but is not limited to shop safety, tool identification and use, concepts and application in the construction industry. Through the completion of construction modules, students will become nationally certified with The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and become eligible for articulation credits through Stark State College. A student must take four years of a math, specifically Algebra 2 and three years of science including at least two lab-based science courses. This class will meet for two periods daily.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES
– Massillon High School

Construction Trades I & II -2 yr. program for juniors & seniors; meets 3 periods per day for 3 credits per yr. The program consists of Related (classroom) and Lab (Hands-on) experiences. Students will develop basic skills in carpentry, electricity, plumbing, drywall, painting, and interior and exterior maintenance of a structure. Emphasis will be placed on safety, use and care of tools, machines, equipment, and supplies. Level II students will follow the course outline with two exceptions: 1. more in-depth lab and work experience 2. Early placement opportunity during 2nd semester (students must qualify to be eligible).

Fees: Ohio Skills USA membership, tools, tool belt, safety glasses approximately $100.00.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES
– Perry High School

Grade 11, Level I 910 Lab (7 mods) 3 credits

Grade 12, Level II 914 Lab (7 mods) 3 credits

The Building Construction Technologies class is a two year program that will provide students with the basic knowledge to maintain organization, read and follow directions, understand basic building codes and follow manufacture specifications. The students will be taught the basic skills and safety guidelines in a variety of the trade areas. These areas will include carpentry, drywall, electrical, siding, roofing, masonry, bricklaying, plumbing, painting, and general maintenance. While in this program the student will be able to go out on related work sites with and participate in working for the Habitat for Humanity projects. Seniors must provide their own transportation to and from the daily job sites. Work at the job site begins at the start of Perry’s school day.

Prerequisite: Basic Construction recommended

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES

Building Construction Technology – This program teaches students a broad range of entry level skills. It includes the fundamentals of carpentry including floor, wall, ceiling, roof, stair building, and framing; blueprint reading, drywall installation, masonry, plumbing, residential wiring and roofing. Students will also gain knowledge of cost estimation in concrete, flooring, ceilings, walls and roofs. As a student you will be trained to maintain, repair, construct and remodel buildings and homes. Students will also participate in off-site experiences.

HVAC/R ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES (Heating, Ventilation,

The HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration) program, housed at R.G. Drage Career Center, prepares students for careers in the heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration industries. Students in this program receive hands-on training in the installation, service, and repair of residential HVAC/R systems. Work site related experiences with local contractors and with Habitat for Humanity give the students "real world" work experiences. Students learn to assess, diagnose, and design HVAC/R systems. College prep academic competencies in math, science, and communication are integrated into the curriculum. Qualified students will receive national certifications and may apply for scholarships through the Akron-Canton Air Conditioning Contractors of America Chapter. Successful graduates are well prepared for several options after high school, including apprenticeship, a two-year associate degree program, or employment.

Building Technology I and II
Timken HS

Building Technology offers generalists’ preparation for the construction industry rather than intensive study in one particular aspect of the industry. Areas of study that will be integrated throughout the program include safety, proper use of tools, employability skills, electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry and blue print reading. Students meet Career Field competencies in carpentry application and repair such as hanging drywall, roofing applications and repair, residential wiring, plumbing and entry level painting and wallpapering.
