PATHS FOR THE TEACHING PROFESSIONS
– Hoover High School
A 2-year tech prep program for
college bound juniors and seniors who are interested in pursuing
a teaching career. The class meets one period junior year (1
credit) and three periods senior year (3 credits). The program
covers the following competencies: orientation to the teaching
profession, understanding the learner, classroom environment,
planning instruction, teaching strategies, assessing teaching
and learning, school and society relationships, technology
skills, communication skills, subject matter knowledge, and
professional development.
Students will have the
opportunity to observe all grade levels (preK – 12) as well as
special education; work with children; and participate in field
trips.
Students are required by the state to put together a portfolio
based on Praxis III with reflective pieces and evidence from
their field-based experiences. Students will join Future
Educators of America. All seniors must provide their own
transportation to field experience at local schools. The Senior
level course will begin in 2008-09 school year.

planning instruction, teaching strategies, assessing teaching
and learning, school and society relationships, technology
skills, communication skills, subject matter knowledge, and
professional development.
Students will have the
opportunity to observe all grade levels (preK – 12) as well as
special education; work with children; and participate in field
trips. The program is currently partnering with Stark State
College of Technology, Kent State – Stark, and Malone College.
(Students who enroll at Malone College will receive credit for
Education 112 if they meet the requirements of the Articulation
Agreement.)
Students are required by the

Prerequisites:
Minimum 2.6 GPA, currently enrolled in college prep classes, 95%
school attendance, a recommendation from current English
teacher, a written essay, and completion of an application. An
interview may be required.
