MANAGEMENT (Accounting) This course offers students the opportunity to learn skills that are needed toward these certifications: accountant, loan counselor, teller, credit analyst, management analyst, budget analyst, financial manager, comptroller, and auditor. Students will have opportunities to gain these certifications in the context of an accounting program that focuses on learning and using marketing skills, and learning about and applying these all-critical accounting skills in the context of the stock market. A solid understanding of Mathematics and the Language Arts skills, particularly speaking and writing, will be critical to the students' success in this program. Due to concerns regarding staffing and classroom space, students may be asked to complete their math, science, and language arts requirements in their home district. The FS/RM program will be taught in half of the school day – either morning or afternoon. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers in their Job Outlook Survey administered in October, 2005, accounting is at the top of the list of majors they plan to hire at the bachelor's level. MANAGEMENT (Accounting) College Tech Prep Accounting: 6 credits/two year program This Computerized Accounting program is taught in a computer lab where automated accounting software is integrated with the study of the principles of accounting. The program emphasizes skill in computerized accounting software, advanced accounting principles, and spreadsheet accounting. This class meets for three periods daily. This is designed as a two-year program and can qualify for college credit. To articulate college credit, students must take four years of math, specifically Algebra 2; three years of science (two must be lab-based) and earn a "B" or better in the program. MANAGEMENT (Accounting) 2-3 yr. program for so-jr-srs 1-3 periods per day/1 cr per period per yr Designed for students who want to major in accounting or finance in college or who want to work in accounting related positions upon graduating from high school. Students will learn to keep records of financial transactions of a business; verify and enter details of transactions as they occur in chronological order in account and cash journals from source documents; summarize details of ledgers, balance books and compile reports; calculate wages and prepare related reports, through the trial balance. Related class work is in filing, office procedures, calculators, and computers. Senior students are eligible for early placement dependent on attendance, competencies mastered, and grades. MANAGEMENT (Banking) • Banking and
Finance I (Grade 11/Juniors) (3 credits) College Tech Prep The focus of Banking and Finance is to train and prepare for a career in the financial field. Students will acquire skills to analyze data in order to forecast financial trends, accounting, auditing, marketing and the business cycles of a global economy. Students will also learn about checking and savings accounts, investments, loans, taxes and budgets as well as other financial services. Lab experiences will be provided by the operation of a student-run school bank which will model the operations of an authentic financial institution. |
