ENGINEERING
MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES This program is designed to allow students to prepare for manufacturing careers, specifically in the areas of computer aided manufacturing technologies, computer-aided design, and drafting technology. Through an integration of the Machining Technology and Drafting Engineering programs, along with existing math, science, and computer technology programs, an opportunity will be created for students to have a seamless entry into the job market and/or higher education programs and enhance their ability to develop skills that are needed in the current technologically advanced job market. The occupations related to Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing involves designing, improving, and manufacturing products that surround us and that we use every day. ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES This program is ideal for the student interested in the exciting, constantly growing, highly technical field of electricity and electronics. It is designed to prepare students for careers as Electrical Engineering Technicians or Electronics Engineering Technicians. Students are prepared for apprenticeships, job placement or military service. Eventual job opportunities could include biomedical engineering or medical systems, avionics, communications, computer repair or industrial/automated systems, and electrical maintenance. The program is centered on the technical occupational skill, and intertwined with specific college preparatory course work. It is team taught, and focused on building strong critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities using “real world” hands-on experiences. INDUSTRIALPLANT ENGINEERING • Industrial Plant Engineering II (Grade 12/Seniors) (3 credits) This College Tech Prep class will prepare students to work in the maintenance divisions of an industry or business. Upon completion of the program, students will have the necessary practical skills and related technical information to qualify for employment or advancement in various areas of industrial maintenance technology. Students will learn proper maintenance procedures, basic welding and machining skills, blueprint reading, wiring fundamentals, hydraulics, pneumatics, computer skills, and DC/AC electricity. METAL FABRICATION The Welding program is a two year program that teaches fundamentals of welding, known as materials joining, and the processes used in metal fabrication. Students receive training in gas, arc, fluxcore, MIG, and TIG welding and others. Areas such as blueprint reading and learning welding symbols are an integral part of the program. The program also offers learning how to use a grinder, drill, plasma arc cutter, plate shears, burning torch, arc welding machine, layout tools and more. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit, and two certifications: 3G and 6G. Students also become members of the American Welding Society. METAL FABRICATION Grade 11 This program educates students in the fundamentals of the welding industry. It prepares men and women in a variety of hands-on training. The program teaches students the fundamentals of welding, which is the most common way of permanently joining metal parts, and the processes used to fabricated metal. Welding has a solid track record in technology and process advancements. Because of its strength, welding is used to construct and repair parts of ships, automobiles, spacecraft, and thousands of other manufactured products. Job prospects in this industry continue to flourish and the students of the R.G. Drage CTC Metal Fabrication program continue to be recruited from area businesses! PRECISION MACHINING TECHNOLOGY Grade 11 Precision machine technicians in the metalworking industry play a very major role in producing almost every consumer product that we rely on every day, such as, making components for aerospace, automotive, or medical industries, to name a few! This state-of-the-art program uses all the latest equipment and strategies to give you skills that are current in the machining industry. During the course of the program, you will also receive extensive training on CAD/CAM and Tooling U software. Becoming proficient in this software also provides you with transferable skills that can be used in a wide variety of career fields. This program is a practical step towards a two-year or four-year degree and a lifetime career! WELDING AND FABRICATING I Elective 1 year (36 weeks)
Description: Welding I is a course in the basic fundamentals of welding and blueprint development. It covers basic weld joints using different types of machines and electrodes. Oxyacetylene welding consists of fusion welding in all positions, brazing, silver soldering, hand torch burning, machine torch burning, and proper use of shop equipment. Electric arc welding consists of electric welding in all positions and an introduction to M.I.G. and T.I.G. processes. Daily emphasis is placed on attendance, safety and skill development. WELDING AND FABRICATING II Elective 1 year (36 weeks)
Description: Welding II is a course of specializing in advanced math, blueprint reading, and specialized welding processes consisting of the following: oxyacetylene process, torch cutting, manual and automatic burning machine, pipe welding, and out of position welding of mild steel and brazing. Electric welding processes taught are the following: arc welding, T.I.G. welding, M.I.G. welding, and plasma arc cutting. Senior welding focuses on fabrication and its related techniques. Daily emphasis is placed on attendance, safety and skill development. This program is recommended for students planning to become welders, fitters, or cutter/burning machine operators or those wishing to pursue advanced schooling in other specialty areas.
