1) What was your Project/Presentation about? What made it unique and how was it presented?
Our presentation was about the stories of children that had their lives changed by Cancer. There was supporting information about what was wrong with them. At the end we
had a video showing short segments about the kids we covered. All the other information we had was included on a tri fold presentation board.
2) How did you feel about competing against students from other counties? Before and after the competition?
It was very exciting. Waiting actually was pretty hard because we were the last to present in front of everyone. We did get first place though, so it's all great!
3) Did you get anything special for placing when you competed? How does it feel?
We each got certificates and then a glass plaque showing we got first. After everything was said and done, one of the judges came up to us and told us that we got
the highest overall score of anyone who competed. That makes us all feel amazing.
4) What made you decide you wanted to be in a technical program? How has that affected your decisions academically?
It's a great head start for a future career - you get college credits and hands on experience. That's why we decided to do it. It's really nice to be involved with so many other people that
share the same passions that we do... That's one thing we really didn't expect! Sure we might have to strive to get good grades, but it's all worth it at the end of the day.
5) Once you've graduated high school where do you see yourself? Are you going to college or right into the workforce? How has Stark County
Tech prep affected these decisions?
We're going to college! It's up in the air between Malone, Kent, Walsh, or even Xavier. Without the program we would've continued getting an education - what we're doing now though is a nice
"push" in the right direction.
6) For other students contemplating going into Tech Prep, what would you tell them?
It's worth the effort and has a great payoff. Because of it we're not just better students: we've learned a lot about ourselves and have made friendships that will last a lifetime.

1) What was your Project/Presentation about? What made it unique and how was it presented?
We located a little kid named Ben that had several different problems with his health. Our project was to raise money for him and improve
his quality of life. There was a benefit dinner held for him and we did all sorts of fundraising. We ended up raising about $37,000 for his family to help cover medical bills. We pretty much just talked about him and showed an interview with him about his health problems. Sure, the project may be over now but we made a lasting impression. We hang out with Ben once a week.
We all pitched in and got him a bike for Christmas too - he's still very much a part of us.
2) How did you feel about competing against students from other counties? Before and after the competition?
We were very confident. We did what nobody else could... We set out and changed the life of a little boy! The whole thing ended up being for a higher purpose. We're so happy we were able to share his
story and impact others around us with Ben's message. It's not about us anymore.
3) Did you get anything special for placing when you competed? How does it feel?
A 2nd place Certificate. We feel more than great about it.
4) What made you decide you wanted to be in a technical program? How has that affected your decisions academically?
We wanted to have medical careers after we got out of college, so getting free college credits for doing what wanted to in the first place is great. I think it has made us become very
hands on with how we approach our work.
5) Once you've graduated high school where do you see yourself? Are you going to college or right into the workforce? How has Stark County
Tech prep affected these decisions?
College to become either an RN or Physician's Assistant. No idea where we're going. Maybe Akron University or Ohio State.
6) For other students contemplating going into Tech Prep, what would you tell them?
It's very relevant to your future experiences. It's a good experience that is very enlightening - you never know what could happen!

Marlington High School 1st Place Team: Stock Market Analogy
|
|
Students: Molly Halverstadt, Katie Wallace, Daniel Zavarelli
|
1) What was your Project/Presentation about? What made it unique and how was it presented?
It was a business plan for a technological company. We wanted to address shopper issues and bring up the idea of more advanced systems (like checkouts
and security). For examples in our presentation we used computer images (a PowerPoint) and poster boards.
2) How did you feel about competing against students from other counties? Before and after the competition?
We really enjoyed the competition! Doing the project though was a LOT less enjoyable... But we were very relieved to have gotten 1st place for our hard work! Winning feels great!
3) Did you get anything special for placing when you competed? How does it feel?
We got a curved glass plaque. To be honest we're glad we won but also happy it's over.
4) What made you decide you wanted to be in a technical program? How has that effected your decisions academically?
The college credits for sure! It's less time and less money down the road.
5) Once you've graduated high school where do you see yourself? Are you going into college or right into the workforce? How has Stark County
Tech prep affected these decisions?
The ladies on the team will be going to school for business with the credits they've earned at Marlington (a college in Hawaii for one of the girls). Daniel, however, will be going to Kent Stark for nursing. He changed his mind after beginning the technical program.
6) For other students contemplating going into Tech Prep, what would you tell them?
Work hard at it if you decide to do it - don't fall behind if you want to succeed. It is well worth your time and effort.

Marlington High School 2nd Place Team: Standout Wireless
|
|
Students: Joey Dickerhoff, Chad Rankin, Mark Stevens
|
1) What was your Project/Presentation about? What made it unique and how was it presented?
We created a fake cell phone company called Standout Wireless. The goal was to make it different from other
cell phone companies today. You hear all sorts of ads today talking about dropped calls, so separate networks for better coverage was part of our plan.
2) How did you feel about competing against students from other counties? Before and after the competition?
It was okay. We didn't really get into the competitive spirit. We're glad to have won despite that though.
3) Did you get anything special for placing when you competed? How does it feel?
We got a certificate. It's awesome the judges liked our ideas!
4) What made you decide you wanted to be in a technical program? How has that affected your decisions academically?
College credits are definitely a plus to being in the program. It was also a field that we desired to go to college for. Academically, I think that
you have to work a little harder for your grades, but overall it's very worth it.
5) Once you've graduated high school where do you see yourself? Are you going to college or right into the workforce? How has Stark County
Tech prep affected these decisions?
We'll be going to college at Mount Union and Toledo. We've been learning a lot in the program without very much stress. It's paced just above normal
high school classes so college doesn't seem so scary anymore.
6) For other students contemplating going into Tech Prep, what would you tell them?
Work hard and study hard. It's worth the time and effort for the skills you receive.

Marlington High School 3rd Place Team: V-Studies
|
|
Students: Justin Cathey, Breanna Hostetler, Logan Hathaway, Austin Webb
|
1) What was your Project/Presentation about? What made it unique and how was it presented?
It's a 3D Hologram used to learn with. We wanted it to be applied in schools and colleges so learning wouldn't be such a chore. Our presentation included a poster board specifically
targeted at our audience, prices of how much it would be, and a fake business plan. We also did a survey of students and teachers from different schools to get their input and ideas.
2) How did you feel about competing against students from other counties? Before and after the competition?
It was kind of a necessary evil having to present... We weren't too thrilled. After it was done we were relieved it was finally over. The whole thing is such an intimidating process. You have to go through standing out there in front of the judges.
3) Did you get anything special for placing when you competed?
We each got Certificates.
4) What made you decide you wanted to be in a technical program? How has that affected your decisions academically?
College credits! We also wanted to major in things like Accounting after graduation. It gets us ahead of the game for good grades as well as college experience.
5) Once you've graduated high school where do you see yourself? Are you going to college or right into the workforce? How has Stark County
Tech prep affected these decisions?
We'll be going to college - Bowling Green for two of us. We like the sense of finishing high school with a start on our college credits. It makes us a lot more confident going after a college degree.
6) For other students contemplating going into Tech Prep, what would you tell them?
Participate and do everything asked of you. It's a very enjoyable and enlightening thing to do. If you do it, remember this: it might be challenging but it's also fun at the same time.

Marlington High School 2nd Place Team: Building A Brick Paver Driveway
|
|
Students: Cyle, Dillin, Nick G., Ryan S.
|
1) What was your Project/Presentation about? What made it unique and how was it presented?
We built a driveway out of bricks in the parking lot of the Marlington Horticultural building. It was presented through photos of our work and swatches of the materials.
We demonstrated the steps to completing the project and showed what the community did to help us get there.
2) How did you feel about competing against students from other counties? Before and after the competition?
We were pretty excited about it.
3) Did you get anything special for placing when you competed? How does it feel?
We got a Certificate for 2nd place. It felt great to win... If we had to go back today and present again we would have changed a few things. Since we know what to do now, we're confident with going back next year.
4) What made you decide you wanted to be in a technical program? How has that affected your decisions academically?
Mr. Hippley for sure is one of the best influences we've had. He knows what he's doing and is an awesome guy! He's really fantastic.
5) Once you've graduated high school where do you see yourself? Are you going to college or right into the workforce? How has Stark County
Tech prep affected these decisions?
Right into the work force probably for most of us - We can get into anything landscape related like golf courses or we can start our own business. One of the students is going to
Southwestern College so he can use the credits he gained from the program.
6) For other students contemplating going into Tech Prep, what would you tell them?
It's great hands on learning and a good tool to get into the workforce. It's also a good test to know if you're really interested in doing this for a living.
